Monday, January 7, 2019

Norwegian based Odfjell Drilling has taken delivery of a a new semi-submersible drilling rig from South Korean builder Samsung Heavy Industries.

The sixth generation dynamically positioned Deepsea Nordkapp is an enhanced Moss Maritime CS-60 design that is winterized and built specifically for operating in harsh environments.

The rig will now start on its voyave to the Norwegian continental shelf for its 2+2 year contract with Aker BP.  Drilling operations are expected to commence in the second quarter of 2019.

The rig, originally named Stena MidMax, was ordered by Stena Drilling in 2013, but the U.K. driller canceled the order in 2017 claiming Samsung Heavy was unable to deliver the unit within the contractually agreed timeframe. Odfjell Drilling purchased the rig in April 2018.
