VSMC, a cable-laying joint venture between Royal Boskalis Westminster and VolkerWessels, has been awarded a contract by Sandbank Offshore Windfarm (a joint venture between Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München).

The scope of work includes cable supply, cable protection systems, installation, post lay burial and termination and testing of 76 infield cables. The total contract value to VSMC is EUR90 million. The project execution is scheduled to start in August 2015 and will be completed by mid 2016.

Boskalis' strategy is aimed at benefitting from key macro-economic factors which drive worldwide demand in its markets: expansion of the global economy, increase in energy consumption, global population growth and the challenges that go hand in hand with climate change. This project is closely related to the development of generating renewable energy due to climate change and increasing energy consumption.
