Centrica Energy is considering three different concepts to develop the Butch discovery in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea according to partner Faroe Petroleum.

Three concepts under study are a subsea tie-back to the Ula field, a subsea tie-back to the Gyda field and a standalone development with a lease contract of a jackup rig. Faroe says Centrica is due to make a concept selection in early 2015 with and aim to submit a development plan in early 2016.

The Butch Main well 8/10-4 S was drilled in 2011 and encountered net oil pay of about 50m in the Upper Jurassic reservoir of the Ula formation which was followed by two side-tracks (8/10-4 A and 8/10-4 T2) to appraise for additional volumes of oil further down-dip and to establish the oil-water contact.

Butch East and Butch South West were then drilled and announced as unsuccessful in May and July 2014 respectively.
