Dubai-based fabrication and engineering firm Lamprell has delivered the jackup drilling rig Greatdrill Chaaru to Greatship Global Energy Services within budget and ahead of schedule.

Construction of the rig was undertaken on a fast-track basis and completion was achieved in 18 months after initial steel cutting. The naming ceremony was held at Lamprell’s Hamriyah facility in the UAE on 9 February and the rig will sail to its drilling location in India within the next few days.

The rig will join its sister vessel, the Greatdrill Chaaya, which Lamprell delivered in January 2013. Both rigs are contracted to work for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) in the offshore Indian territorial waters.

Greatdrill Chaaru has been designed according to the LeTourneau Super 116E (Enhanced) Class design. With this delivery, the Group has now completed a total of 13 Super 116E jackup drilling rigs and has handed over its second major project for 2015.

Bharat Sheth, Chairman, Greatship Group commented: “There has been excellent teamwork between the Lamprell and Greatship project team members, they have completed the project ahead of time without any major incidents and I am impressed, above all, with the quality of workmanship.”

Commenting on the delivery, Jim Moffat, Chief Executive Officer, Lamprell, said: “I am pleased to be marking the early completion and delivery of this rig to Greatship. Our project team has performed extremely well to deliver this project ahead of schedule, as per the client’s requirements and within budget. The Group’s project execution continues to be of the highest standards and further demonstrates Lamprell’s proven capability to fabricate high quality, complex products for use in the global energy industry. We are proud that Greatship has chosen to partner with Lamprell in relation to this latest addition to their jackup fleet and we are confident that this rig will perform to their client’s expectations in the upcoming operations.”
