UK-based ASCO Group is to provide supply base services for Austrian operator OMV's operations in the Norwegian Sea and Barents Sea.

The contract, ASCO's first with OMV, will last three years from 1 January 2016 with two, one-year option periods. It covers base services, quayside operations, warehousing, personnel, waste handling and custom clearance services.

OMV has been active in Norway since 2006. The firm's portfolio currently comprises 16 licenses in the North Sea, 13 in the Norwegian Sea and 11 licenses in the Barents Sea. OMV is the operator of eight of these licences.

OMV says it aims to drill five to six wells per year, one to two operated. It has currently successfully completed three operated wells, including the 7324/8-1 Wisting discovery in PL537 in the Barents Sea.

OMV is a partner in the development of Aasta Hansteen, Zidane and Edvard Grieg. OMV has also a share in the Polarled project.
