Cairn Energy has started a new 3D seismic survey over the Sangomar Deep, Sangomar and Rufisque permits, offshore Senegal.

The Polarcus Adira 3D seismic vessel is acquiring data in the north and east parts of the permits along trend from existing mapped prospects where there is currently no 3D seismic data coverage, says partner FAR Limited. The survey will also assist with the delineation of the existing SNE discovery.

Data acquisition is expected to be completed in Q4 2015 with final processed products due to be delivered mid-2016.

Cairn and its partners are expected to start a new three-well exploration program offshore Senegal in early Q4, comprising two appraisal wells on the SNE discovery, in the Shelf Edge Play, and an exploration well on the Bellatrix prospect.

Bellatrix will be the first well to be drilled in the Buried Hills play that FAR considers is highly prospective and the first exploration well to be drilled since the successful SNE-1 and FAN-1 discovery wells, the company says.
