Petrofac is supporting Tullow Oil on its decommissioning program for the Horne and Wren platform in the Southern North Sea.

The role sees Petrofac, which has been duty holder on the platform for more than 10 years, move into well plugging and abandonment operations on the field, through its subsidiary SPD Limited, as part of the Thames Area Complex decommissioning project.

The contract, which started earlier this month, was awarded as a result of competitive tender. Petrofac’s well management team will execute the planning and operational phases and manage the entire end-to-end process within a nine month schedule.

Alex MacDonald, Managing Director - SPD, Petrofac Engineering & Production Services said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to further cement our existing relationship with Tullow to build upon our existing provision of WellAtlas well management software and Duty Holder operations.

“Through this full plug and abandonment project management contract we will bring to bear our capabilities to deliver detailed design and planning, procurement, subcontractor management and the execution of the plug and abandonment operations.”

Walter Thain, Managing Director, West, Petrofac Engineering & Production Services said: “This award is an example of where we can add further value and support our clients through the integration of our wider service offering; maximizing value through our Duty Holder capabilities by managing assets through their late life cycles and supporting transition into the decommissioning and abandonment stage.”

Established in 2002, SPD is part of Petrofac’s Engineering and Production Services business and has amassed a wealth of experience in planning and managing well operations worldwide. It has operational centers in Aberdeen, Sharjah, Kuala Lumpur and New Zealand and has drilled more than 180 wells worldwide.

WellAtlas is a unique integrated software tool which supports the entire well management and delivery agenda and provides a comprehensive overview of projects. It allows users to leverage a global knowledge repository, assuring management and project teams that risks are being managed effectively and key deliverables are being executed on time, enabling a consistent approach to project delivery.
