Decom North Sea CEO to join OGTC

Decommisioning trade body Decom North Sea CEO Roger Esson is to join the Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) as its Decommissioning Solution Centre Manager. 

Esson has more than 20 years of oil and gas industry leadership experience in the UK and internationally. He has been involved in the execution of several major decommissioning projects including North West Hutton and Brent Delta.

Reporting to Colette Cohen, CEO of the OGTC, Roger will lead the Decommissioning Solution Centre, working in partnership with the industry and technology providers to accelerate the pace of new technologies to drive value and efficiency in this growing area of the industry.

Cohen said: “Our priority is to work in partnership with the industry and technology providers to develop and deploy technologies that help extend the production life of UKCS fields and help deliver the goal of reducing decommissioning costs by 35%."

Decommissioning is one of five industry-led themes the OGTC is currently focused on. The other themes are well construction, asset integrity, small pools and digital transformation. With more than 65 memberships, the centre has approved investment of more than £18 million in 30 projects in partnership with industry since it was established in February 2017.
