BHP Billiton has made an oil discovery in multiple horizons at the Wildling-2 appraisal well in the ultra deepwaters of the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the company, “positive drilling results” were encountered at the well this month.
Wildling is in Green Canyon 530 at about 1230m water depth. Wildling-2 was spudded in April with the Transcoean Deepater Invictus.
“Evaluation is ongoing to assess the scale of the resource following the successful Shenzi North and Caicos wells,” BHP said.
Next up is the Scimitar wildcat, which is expected to begin drilling operations in September.
At Wildling-1, BHP experienced mechanical difficulty, and had to plug and abandon the well in April.
Offshore Trinidad and Tobago, BHP said appraisal work is continuing to assess the potential commercialization of the gas discovery at LeClerc and to prepare for deepwater oil exploration in Phase 2, which is expected to begin in the 2H 2018 financial year.
