Tekmar Bags Formosa 1 Phase 2 Gig

UK-based Tekmar Energy has been selected as the cable protection system (CPS) and hang off supplier for the 120-MW Formosa I Phase II offshore wind project in Taiwanese waters.

A press note from the company announced that it has received the order from subsea power cable provider JDR Cables, part of TFKable Group.

Tekmar will be providing approximately 60 cable protection systems and a further 60 hang off clamps which hold the subsea cable in place within the turbine transition piece.

Formosa 1 Phase 2 is a project located 6km from the shore of Taiwan, consisting of 20 turbines and will provide a total of 122 MW in water depth of approximately 15-30m. The project is set for completion in 2019.

Russell Edmondson, Managing Director of Tekmar Energy said: “We are delighted for Tekmar to be selected as the cable protection system and hang off supplier for Formosa 1 Phase 2. This continues Tekmar’s relationship with JDR Cables and furthers our position as the world market leader in offshore wind cable protection systems.”

The award also continues the success of Tekmar in the region, after being selected Formosa 1 Phase 1.

The project will mark Tekmar’s 67th project within the industry, retaining Tekmar’s record of having worked on more offshore wind projects than any other company worldwide.

Paul Marsh, Projects Director at JDR Cables said: “Cable protection systems are vital for protecting the subsea cables of offshore wind farm projects. We have worked with Tekmar for many years and Formosa 1 Phase 2 builds on our trusted relationship on this exciting project.”

As part of the project, Tekmar will be supplying their TekLink cable protection system for all inter array and export cables.

The product will be produced within Tekmar’s state of the art manufacturing facility in the North East of England.

Tekmar Energy Limited is one of Tekmar Group plc’s four primary operating companies, in addition to Subsea Innovation Limited, AgileTek Engineering Limited and Ryder Geotechnical Limited.
