Spaniards East bites dust

WilPhoenix rig

Premier Oil has plugged and abandoned its UK North Sea prospect Spaniards East after the well came up dry, the company announced on 6 November 2012.

The well was spud by the WilPhoenix rig in mid-October and drilled to a total depth of 10,694 ft. Premier said the well discovered 75 ft of Jurassic Sands, its intended target; however logs showed the sands to be water wet.

Graham Stewart, CEO of Faroe Petroleum, a partner in the Spaniards East program, said despite the failure the companies gained useful data about the area from the well.

The Spaniards East well is located inside the Moray Firth near the Scott and Telford fields in water depths of approximately 460 ft.

Following completion activities on Spaniards East, the WilPhoenix rig will next begin drilling operations on the Cyclone prospect in UK block 28/7.
