Aker Solutions launched the Aker Academy full service training facility in Houston in June. The 10,000ft2 center is equipped with the latest in simulator technology, including the 240° dome drilling simulator shown here. The domed screen, coupled with drilling control systems software, creates a 1:1 simulation of the drilling rig experience. Each specific rig can be recreated virtually to include all rig equipment and control systems. ‘This offers the possibility of onshore training and detailed operational planning, with the same signal treatment, in virtual environments that are identical to those that will be experienced offshore,’ Aker said.
