Oilennium launches remote elearning modules

Oilennium, a Petrofac Training Services (PTS) company, today announced the launch of the ConTrainer, the first system to offer eLearning modules offshore and in remote locations without requiring access to the internet.

The Oilennium ConTrainer is the most recent offering from PTS, further expanding its portfolio of training services and products for the international oil and gas industry.

Developed by Oilennium, the ConTrainer is a standalone Learning Management System (LMS) that features content on a small computer system.  The ConTrainer was created in response to demand from oil and gas companies seeking to provide interactive learning for employees working in remote locations where they cannot connect to the internet.

Norway-based Dolphin Geophysical has been using the ConTrainer since September 2012. "To help us achieve a multi-faceted Health and Safety Training programme, we needed a way of deploying eLearning on our global geophysical fleet," said Mike Hodge, VP of QHSE for Dolphin Geophysical. “Following a highly successful trial, during which our crews really appreciated the fast and responsive learning environment, we now have the ConTrainer solution being deployed throughout all vessels in our fleet."

Here’s how it works:  each ConTrainer is populated with an on-site version of the Oilennium LMS database, the interactive learning modules and learners’ user details. The unit, which can be connected to the client’s network or standalone, is then placed in the remote location where employees are working and connecting to the internet is impossible or unreliable.

Tailor-made or existing modules can also be installed on the ConTrainer, making them readily available.

“All that’s required is to log in by simply entering an individual user name and password, navigate to the modules they are enrolled in, and commence learning,” said Kevin Keable, founder and Managing Director of Oilennium, a division of PTS.

“Whether they’re offshore, on a vessel or in the desert, these employees can now continue their learning, just as if they were back in the office.  And, because the system is fully scalable, the number of users is virtually unlimited,” he added.

"The intention is to maximize the learning experience and ensure that what has been learnt is transferred to the workplace.  In short it’s about maximizing the return on investment in people,” said Chris Gregory, Global Director, Competence Solutions for PTS.

"Highly interactive eLearning is crucial to today’s oil and gas industry, not only to ensure user engagement and retention, but to provide standardised quality learning, no matter where employees are located."
