Huisman busy in China and Schiedam

A 3000-tonne offshore mast crane has been installed on EMAS' Lewek Constellation at Huisman China’s yard in the Fujian Province using a new 2400-tonne quayside crane at the facility.

The quayside crane, known as the Skyhook, installed the offshore mast crane in two lifts, within a three-day period.

The vessel will leave Huisman China in April, and is due to arrive at Huisman Schiedam mid-2014, for the installation of a 800-tonne multi-lay pipelay tower.

China Skyhook

The Skyhook has two main lifting configurations: a heavy lift configuration, capable of lifting 2400-tonne at 30m outreach (maximum lifting height of 100m) and an extended reach configuration, capable of placin g a 200-tonne load at 90m outreach (maximum lifting height of 140m).The crane can travel along the 380m-long quayside, and is capable of traveling this distance with a load of 2400-tonne in its “super ballast” main lift configuration.

The Skyhook was designed and fabricated by Huisman and has been an operational quayside crane since the spring of 2013, along with the 380m-long Huisman China quayside.

Order book

Huisman China’s order portfolio for 2014 and beyond includes various cranes, a 325-tonne vertical-lay pipelay system for Subsea 7, and a well intervention system for Helix Energy Solutions.

Schiedam pipelay activity

Meanwhile, Huisman's Schiedam yard, in the Netherlands, currently has five newly built pipelay systems out on the quayside, outside the firm's 66m-high production.

The five pipelay systems include the 800-tonne multi-lay system (MLS) for Ezra’s Lewek Constellation, a 275-tonne vertical-lay system (VLS) for Ceona’s Polar Onyx, a 150-tonne VLS for (VARD) Ocean Installer’s Normand Vision and a portable 150-tonne VLS for Technip.

An additional 550-tonne tiltable-lay system (TLS) for Subsea 7 has already been installed onboard the Seven Waves, which is currently at the Huisman Schiedam quayside, and is planned to depart for seatrials in February 2014.

The Ocean Installer VLS and the Technip VLS will be transported to other yards (Sovik in Norway and Le Trait in France, respectively) for installation on the designated vessels.

The VLS for Ceona’s Polar Onyx and the MLS for Ezra’s Lewek Constellation will both be installed at Huisman Schiedam, in March and July of this year, respectively.

Next to the five systems on the quayside, another 10 pipelay systems for various clients are currently under construction: 1 x 570-tonne MLS, 3 x 650 TLS, 3 x 550 TLS, 2 x 340 TLS and 1 x 150 TLS.
