Trelleborg bags large DRBM deal

Published

Trelleborg’s offshore operation has been awarded one of its largest single orders for drill riser buoyancy modules (DRBM) by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in Korea.

Consisting of RiserGuard and riser buoyancy, the contract is for a four-rig package which will initially consist of two rigs each, for drilling companies Seadrill and Sonangol.

Mark Angus, president within Trelleborg Offshore and Construction in the US said: “This award is the second largest single DRBM order for Trelleborg and will be manufactured and delivered out of our Houston, Texas facility in the US over the next 15 months.”

In order to reduce a drilling riser’s net weight in water, and ensure that the structure and drilling vessel are supported, Trelleborg offers a range of DRBMs, fitted around the length of the riser pipe, improving the riser’s buoyancy and protecting it from service damage. Around 4000 DRBMs will be supplied for the four rigs.

In addition, Trelleborg will supply RiserGuard for the bare joints. RiserGuard is a bare or slick joint system specifically designed to protect bare joints and auxiliary lines from installation and handling damage. Also available in a stackable option, Stackable RiserGuard joints can be piled-up alongside buoyant riser joints in the same deck storage area. This system offers quick and easy installation and is impact and abrasion resistant.
