Polaris gets 2D seismic survey in Kenya

CAMAC Energy Kenya Ltd., awarded Polaris Seismic International Ltd. a seismic contract for a 2D seismic surveys partly offshore Kenya.

The survey covers 506sq km within Block L16 partly onshore and partly offshore Kenya.

CAMAC says the objective of the survey is to identify the geologic prospect elements that could lead to a commercial hydrocarbon discovery and meet the obligations of the work program.

Five broad play types in the area that may extend onto CAMAC Energy's acreage include the pre-rift Permian, Lower Jurassic Karoo equivalent sequences in tilted fault blocks, Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous synrift sediments in drape and roll-over anticlines, Upper Cretaceous fans, and the post-rift Tertiary sequences that include stratigraphic plays and carbonate build-up/reef targets.

In March, CAMAC Energy acquired 2D seismic covering offshore Blocks L27 and L28 in which WesternGeco, a division of Schlumberger, is currently processing results.

The contract is subject to negotiation and signing of a definitive agreement.

In August, CAMAC discovered four new oil and gas reservoirs during drilling on an Oyo field development well in OML 120 offshore Nigeria.  The CAMAC-operated Oyo-8 well was spudded on 15 June.  Northern Offshore's Energy Searcher drillship (pictured) is in a two-year contract to  drill the Oyo-8 well to 1800m TD at 310m water depth, and will produce from the Pliocene reservoir. The Oyo-8 well is expected to commence production 4Q 2014.
