Centrica spuds Ivory well

Centrica Energy's Norwegian outfit has started drilling on the Ivory prospect in production license 528 in the Norwegian Sea, according to partners Rocksource and Atlantic Petroleum,

Exploration well 6707/10-3 S is being drilled using the West Navigator drillship, 20km northeast of the Statoil operated Aasta Hansteen development, due on stream in 2017.

The primary objective of the well is to prove the presence of hydrocarbons in the Kvitnos formation sandstones, with a secondary target in the Lysing formation. Rocksource estimates the Ivory prospect to have 280-1280 billion standard cubic feet (50-230MM boe) unrisked, gross prospective resources in the primary target. Planned total depth is 4149m below mean sea.

Centrica is operator holding 40% interest alongside Rocksource, with 10%, Statoil (35%), Atlantic Petroleum Norge (9%) and Repsol (6%) - the latter two subject to government approval of a deal between Atlantic and Repsol announced 22 August.

Ben Arabo, Atlantic's CEO, said: “We are very pleased to announce the spud of the Ivory well, our second well in Norway. As well as evaluating the main prospect, success at Ivory will significantly de-risk the other prospects and leads identified on the licence. This is Atlantic Petroleum’s fourth of four exploration wells in our planned 2014 drilling program."
