Statoil plugging Gullfaks Sør with Songa Dee

Statoil received consent to use the Songa Dee mobile drilling facility to permanently plug exploration well 34/10-52 A/B, according to the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway.

Well 34/10-52 A/B is located at the Statoil-operated Gullfaks Sør, in the northern part of the North Sea. The field has been developed using a subsea solution tied back to the Gullfaks A and C facilities.

Production on the field began in October 1998 and the well was drilled and temporarily plugged in 2011.

Operations were planned to begin in late October and is estimated to last for 16 days.

Songa Deeis a semisubmersible mobile drilling facility of the Mitsubishi MD-602 type, built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd in Japan in 1984.

The facility is owned and operated by Songa Management AS of Stavanger. It was issued with an acknowledgement of compliance (AOC) by the PSA in June 2009.
