Atkins has been awarded two contracts by Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO) for structural analysis services worth over US$3 million.
The work will support ADMA-OPCO’s expansion program for its offshore production facilities by supporting the safe life extension of existing critical infrastructure.
The first is for quantitative structural assessment of 31 well head towers (WHTs) in the Umm Shaif field, offshore from Abu Dhabi. Atkins will undertake structural assessment of the WHTs to establish a robust integrity management system for the company's fleet of offshore structures, building SACS models to enable detailed analysis.
The second award is for advanced structural analysis of barge-type structures, which form the central platforms of ADMA OPCO’s offshore processing facilities.
David Gowans, operations director for Atkins’ Oil and Gas business in the Middle East, explained: “By drawing on 40 years’ experience of asset integrity management we can safely anticipate and manage repair of age related defects, allowing continued use and development of aging infrastructure.
“Our approach to life extension enables operators to get the most oil and gas resource out of the field before the infrastructure needs to be replaced: in some cases we have been able to safely extend the life of an asset by double its design life. It adds considerable value to the asset by deferring future investment cost, as well as providing assurance of asset integrity.”
ADMA-OPCO is part of the ADNOC Group of companies, with responsibility for the development and operation of offshore fields in five main areas: Lower Zakum, Umm Shaif, SARB, Umm Lulu and Nasr. The earliest field has been in operation since 1967.
Atkins’ Oil and Gas business has been providing safety, integrity management and design services to the oil and gas industry for over 40 years both in the Middle East and internationally from its hubs in the UK, North America and Asia Pacific. The Structural Integrity Management team based in Atkins’ Energy business in UAE will lead the project with support from across Atkins’ worldwide oil and gas business.
