Noryards building Boa eco-friendly vessel

Noryards is taking on a US$89 million Boa Offshore contract to build an eco-friendly inspection maintenance and repair (IMR) vessel for the Norwegian ship-owner and operator.

The Boa Bison. From Boa.

The contract for the newbuild includes two options. Delivery is scheduled for 1Q 2017. Hull construction will be subcontracted to one of Noryards’ recognized partners in Turkey, Tersan shipyard, and the hull is scheduled to arrive at Noryards Fosen for outfitting mid-2016.

Noryards says that the vessel will be one of the most energy-efficient vessels of its class, utilizing a number of features that contribute to optimal operational performance, low emissions and reduced fuel consumption.

The vessel will have an free deck space and a high crewing / operator capacity relative to it’s size, including modern facilities for execution of effective IMR operations. The vessel’s overall length will be 108m with a beam of 24m.

This deal is the third contract between Noryards and Boa, following the Boa Bison launched at Noryards Fosen last year and Boa Jarl, currently under construction at the yard in Rissa, Norway.

“An IMR vessel has to handle a wide range of operations under challenging conditions. We have set demanding requirements for this vessel’s performance and capabilities with a clear focus on quality, cost-efficiency, operational precision and safety,” says Helge Kvalvik, Boa Offshore CEO. “The outcome is a vessel that not only meets the highest operational and safety standards, but we also have achieved to find solutions in co-operation with Noryards with a design that we expect will contribute to a greener and more sustainable shipping. By assigning Noryards we are confident that this complex project is in good hands.”
