Rowan Companies retired two of its 32 offshore drilling rigs from service — the Rowan Alaska and Rowan Juneau — effective as of 1 July 2015. The company entered into contracts for sale of the rigs with an expected closing by the end of the month. The sale agreements prohibit their future use as drilling units.
Rowan’s current fleet includes four ultra-deepwater drillships and 28 jackup rigs. Rowan continues to estimate planned out-of-service time for 2Q 2015 to range from 3% to 6% for its jack-ups and drillships, subject to fleet repositioning and market conditions.
No operational downtime is included in its current projected out-of-service days, but the company estimates jackup operational downtime to account for about 2.5% of in-service days in current and future quarters. Rowan continues to expect drillship operational downtime to be about 5% after a break-in period of around six months to one year, during which drillship operational downtime will likely be higher.
