Shell drops Noble Discoverer

Published

Drilling contractor Noble Corp. is relocating its drillship Noble Discoverer to Singapore where it will be stacked after Shell terminated its contract on the rig.

Shell had been using the Noble Discoverer for its failed arctic exploration in the Chukchi Sea alongside the Polar Pioneer

Under the terms of the contract, Shell will pay Noble for the remaining term at about 90% of the operating dayrate.

Noble says it's also in discussions with Freeport-McMoRan over the Noble Sam Croft and Noble Tom Madden drillships, based in the Gulf of Mexico, where Freeport has said it's looking to reduce the number of rigs it is using.
