SAL on Veja Mate wind farm

SAL Heavy Lift signed a contract with Dutch Offshore WindForce, a joint venture between Boskalis and Volker Stevin International, for the transport of 67 transition pieces.

The transition pieces are destined for the Veja Mate in offshore windfarm in the German North Sea some 95km north west of Borkum Island. 

The transport will commence some 12 voyages from Aalborg, Denmark to Eemshaven, Netherlands from where the transition pieces will be handed over to a specialized installation vessel. Each of the 67 transition pieces has a length of in excess of 25m and a weight of approximately 360-ton.

The transition pieces will be transported in vertical position and SAL will in addition to the transport be responsible for the design, engineering, fabrication of specialized grillages and lifting tools.

SAL’s Head of Projects, Sune Thorleifsson states: “I am very pleased to see SAL sign this contract – we have an extensive knowledge with-in transportation of complex structures, which gave Offshore WindForce the confidence to award SAL as logistic partner for this significant project.”

SAL’s contract to work on the Veja Mate project will start in June 2016 and is scheduled to end in August 2016.
