Remacut delivers VLS system

Italy's Remacut has delivered a 150m-tonne vertical lay system (VLS) for McDermott at its quay side assembly shop in Genoa, Italy, using a single-lift load out.

The delivery took place after successful factory acceptance test of all the equipment installed on the VLS.

The system was ordered Q2 2015 and was conceived as a portable unit to be mobilized as single-lift structure and to be quickly installed on a vessel of opportunity for laying various type of products (flexibles, umbilical, cables) ranging from 28-600mm outer diameter.

It will be used initially on McDermott's V108 as part of work on Inpex's Ichthys project offshore Australia.

The operations at Remacut quay side workshop have been performed with an injuries-free track record.

"In a relatively short period of time, we have delivered a high-quality and innovative Vertical lay System," says Paolo Portonero, Technical Sales Manager of Remacut. "The delivery of this VLS to our Customer is a milestone in our company history."

Remacut's new assembly workshop has some 5000sq m covered area and 10,000sq m outdoor space, with 180m-long quayside access (extendable to 300m) and 10m water depth.

"Genoa's assembly workshop it is strategic for our company," says Bruno Rosa, President of Remacut. "Large deck equipment including tensioners, winches, pipe handling systems on-skid, can be delivered fully assembled, commissioned and delivered in single lift at the quayside."

"This was a key project with a compressed timeline for completion and REMACUT met all the requirements and delivered the 150-tonne VLS on time without issues," said Stewart House, Lay Systems manager for McDermott International.
