HMC, AF Decom to scrap four Ekofisk platforms

ConocoPhillips will choose Heerema Marine Contractors and AF Gruppen to remove and dispose of platforms connected to the Ekofisk field in the Norwegian North Sea.

Ekofisk was the first oilfield discovered in the North Sea, is one of the largest and is expected to continue producing up to 2050 – having started production in 1971. 

The contract includes engineering, preparation, removal and disposal of four platforms, with a total tonnage of about 36,000-tonne. The platforms are to be removed and disposed from 2017-2022.

The four platforms are amoung 19 in the field that will be removed between 2016 and 2050, according to a 2016 presentation by ConocoPhillips.
