Lundin to drill Barents probe

Lundin Petroleum has received permission from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to drill an exploration well in the Barents Sea using the semisubmersible Leiv Eiriksson.

The company will start drilling next month at Block 7220/6 in Production License 609 approximately 190km from Bjørnøya. Lundin expects drilling to last around 34 days, depending on when a discovery is made.

The semi is a SS Trosvik Bingo 9000 type rig, owned by Ocean Rig and operated by Rig Management Norway.Leiv Eirikssonwas issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance by the PSA in July 2008.
