ConocoPhillips has received consent from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) for preparations for and the start of the removal of minor structures from the Ekofisk field facilities, including the installation of a temporary crane on Ekofisk 2/4 FTP in the Norwegian North Sea.

ConocoPhillips applied to the PSA for consent to dispose of the Ekofisk 2/4 H, Ekofisk 2/4 A, Ekofisk 2/4 FTP and Ekofisk 2/4 Q facilities.

ConocoPhillips has gained consent for parts of the work, which covers the initiation of preparatory work offshore and the start of the removal of minor structures, as well as the installation of a temporary crane on Ekofisk 2/4-FTP.

“We are dealing separately with the remainder of ConocoPhillips' consent application,” says the PSA.

Ekofisk was the first oilfield discovered in the North Sea, is one of the largest and is expected to continue producing up to 2050 – having started production in 1971.

In April, ConocoPhillips awarded Heerema Marine Contractors and AF Gruppen to remove and dispose of platforms connected to the Ekofisk field.
