Petronas to open Mexico City office

Petronas subsidiary PC Carigali Mexico Operations is opening a Mexico City office in Q3 2017 that will help support the company’s operations in the Salinas basin.

In all, Petronas has 5491sq km in gross acreage in the Salina Basin.

In June, the company along with 50:50 partner Ecopetrol, was awarded Block 6 covering an area of about 559sq km in 30-80m water depth in Mexico’s shallow water round, Round 2.1.

In 2016 Petronas was awarded deepwater Block 4 and Block 5 in joint venture partnerships following Mexico’s first ever auction of its deepwater exploration areas.

“Mexico is largely underexplored and holds substantial material opportunities. We are very pleased to add Block 6 to our growing exploration portfolio in Mexico, and be one of the early movers in this basin. This is aligned with our strategy to explore for material oil in largely underexplored prospective regions,” says Petronas Vice President of Exploration, Upstream, Emeliana Rice-Oxley.
