BPZ spuds well off Peru

Drilling has begun on Houston-based BPZ Energy's A-18D development well at the Albacora field platform, located off Peru in Block Z-1.

Drilling and completion is expected to take up to 12 weeks. Targeted depth of the well will be approximately 12,000ft subsea.

BPZ Energy President and CEO Manolo Zuniga said the company is excited to recommence drilling activities at Albacora. In February, the company announced it had conducted 3D seismic data acquisition of Block Z-1 in order to define its exploration program.

Additionally, the company said that it also expects to report drilling results from its first development well at the CX-15 platform by the end of October. The well was finally spud in late July after pre-drilling operations were halted earlier that month due to sea and swell conditions.

BPZ Energy holds 51% interest in offshore Block Z-1, which it is developing in partnership with Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp. The company holds license contracts covering approximately 2 million net acres both offshore and onshore Peru.
