Norwegian operator Statoil is dealing with a well control incident on the Songa Endurance semisubmersible drilling rig at the Troll field in the Norwegian North Sea.
The incident started on Saturday (15 October) morning. The well was secured with a blowout preventer (BOP) on the seabed and with a valve on the rig and work was being carried out to stabilize the well with extra specialist staff being sent out to assist the work, Statoil said Saturday.
Staff without work assignments in connection with the incident were removed from the rig.
The rig was working on the G4 well in the Troll field near the Troll B facility. Complications occurred during the work on removing the production string from the well.
There were 107 people on board when the incident occurred. No injuries were reported and there is no risk of an oil spill, said Statoil. The firm and and Songa Offshore mobilized emergency response organizations.
The Troll field is in the northern part of the North Sea, about 65km west of Kollsnes in Hordaland. The field extends over an area of 750sq km in blocks 31/2, 31/3, 31/5 and 31/6 in the North Sea.
