Offshore support specialist Viking SeaTech has invested in a £1.5 million equipment upgrade.  The overhaul to spoolers, coilers and chain inspection machines brings the company’s stock in line with the latest EU health, safety and environment (HSE) standards.

The company, which is now part of the Actuant Corporation, carried out comprehensive machinery compliance checks over a 12 month period to support an ongoing commitment to its HSE improvement plans.

During the period, Viking SeaTech’s equipment inventory has also grown. The company has invested in two 75-tonne tension spooling machines, one 150-tonne tension spooling machine and an 8-tonne tension coiling unit which meet the latest EU legal requirements. The machinery is now fully operational in Europe and Africa.

Tony Alexander, Group Director of HSE, Security and Quality, said: “We are very pleased to have completed the program of upgrades.  This has included the development of operational documentation and associated training to complete the approach of attaining compliance with legislative requirements. A program of audits and inspections is in place to ensure the current levels of HSE and compliance are maintained.

“Our chain inspection and marine services customers will have access to chain inspection units, rope spooling machines and coiling tables through Viking SeaTech’s network of global bases. A total of 32 machinery items in the fleet were assessed against the requirements of relevant, European and international legislation.”

Although Viking SeaTech has equipment in West Africa, Australia and the USA, it chose European legislation for the assessment as it is on a higher or equal level to other world regions.
