The Subsea Co. launched a blowout preventer (BOP) fluid conditioning & monitoring system. This system is primarily designed to improve fluid quality by reducing microbial activity with exposure to ultraviolet light, removing suspended particles and providing real-time data of BOP fluid pH and conductivity for event and trending analysis.
Offshore BOP fluids are critical to the reliability and functioning of the BOP control system. These water based fluids are traditionally tested by taking daily or weekly samples sent to an onshore lab, which can delay the appropriate action in response to the presence of poor quality fluid in the BOP equipment.
The Subsea Co. monitoring equipment is capable of capturing anomalies in pH signaling changes regarding microbial growth and conductivity indications of dissolved solids.
Analysis of this data and correlating it with known events associated with BOP fluids can assist subsea engineers in eliminating incidents that cause poor BOP fluid quality.
