Ophir Energy, as operator, has dropped its stake in exploration licenses covering three blocks offshore the Seychelles, in the Indian Ocean east of South Africa.
The UK-based explorer had farmed in to the blocks – 5B/1, 5B2 and 5B3 – with Australia’s WHL Energy, but had an option to exit.
The blocks will now revert back to the Seychelles Government. WHL Energy is in discussion with the Seychelles Government to continue its participation in the blocks.
Ophir agreed to take a 75% stake in two blocks from WHL Energy in Q1 2014. With WHL, it then shot the Junon 3D seismic survey in the basin.
