RS completes survey of MODU pair

The repair of the Polyarnaya Zvezda and Severnoye Siyaniye, sixth generation semisubmersible mobile offshore drilling units (MODU), have been completed under the survey of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) at Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Shipyard in Yantai, China.

During the survey of the MODU repair and equipment replacement, RS specialists performed a docking survey, inspection of the hull structures, ship machinery, and disassembled devices. The tests and operation checks of the machinery, equipment, and ship systems, as well as platform sea trials, were successful. Currently their presentation to the next survey has been completed, and the MODUs are ready to continue their work.

Structurally, the Polyarnaya Zvezda and Severnoye Siyaniye are self-propelled floating catamaran structures with two pontoons and six stabilizing columns, supporting the top hull and topside. The platforms are suitable for exploration and production drilling of gas and oil-and-gas wells of up to 7500m in depth, at sea depths from 70-500m, and in broken ice up to .70m thick. Their equipment is designed to efficiently and safely operate at ambient temperatures up to -30°C.

The Polyarnaya Zvezda and Severnoye Siyaniye platforms were built under RS survey at Vyborgskiy shipyard for operation in Arctic conditions. They have RS class notation KM AUT1-ICS EPP for semi-submersible ice-resistant MODU. Before the repair, they were operating at the Sakhalin offshore area.
