Russian oil giant Rosneft has started drilling on the Lebedinskoye oil and gas condensate field, which sits under the Sea of Okhotsk, in Sakhalin region, Russia.

It will drill a 5.3km-long, horizontal extend-reach well, drilled from the coast of Sakhalin Island, using drilling contractor RN-Burenie for RN-Sakhalinmorneftegaz, a Rosneft subsidiary. Rosneft says that, during the well construction, latest technologies including real-time reservoir mapping will be used to help ensure optimum entry into formation, aid decision-making about well bore trajectory adjustment, and refine the field development program.

As part of the project, three horizontal production wells with the length of 5000-7000m are to be drilled.

The first oil from the field flowed in 2014. First oil from the new wells is expected in the current year. The infrastructure of RN-Sakhalinmorneftegaz will be used in the development of the field.

The Lebedinskaya offshore structure is on the North-Eastern Shelf of the Sea of Okhotsk, Okhinsky District, Sakhalin Region.

Two prospecting and appraisal wells were previously drilled at the field; one of the wells was put on pilot production, in 2014.

The quality of crude from the Lebedinskoye field is close to that of Sokol grade, says Rosneft.
