Wintershall Norge has drilled one dry well and another with poor reservoir quality in the North Sea near the Vega field.
Well 35/8-6 S on the Vikafjell North prospect was dry and sidetrack well 35/8-6 A on the Robbins prospect was of poor reservoir quality, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
Both wells were in about 381m water depth in production license 248 about 5km northwest of the Vega field and about 150km northwest of Bergen.
Both wells, drilled using the Borgland Dolphin semisubmersible drilling rig, were looking to prove petroleum in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks (sandstone in the Heather formation).
Preliminary estimates concerning the size of the discovery Robbins prospect range between 0.2 and 1 MMcm of recoverable oil.
The two wells are the sixth and seventh exploration wells in PL248. The license was awarded in the North Sea Awards 1999.
