SBM Offshore has released a video of the Turritella floating production and storage offloading (FPSO) unit, as the vessel started commercial production at Shell’s Stones development in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico on 6 September.
At Stones, the Turritella is in 2896m (9500ft) water depth at some 320km (200mi) offshore Louisiana in the Walker Ridge area.
The vessel is the deepest floating production unit in the work and is under a lease and operate contract that includes an initial period of 10 years with future extension options up to a total of 20 years.
The FPSO is owned and operated by a joint venture owned by affiliated companies of SBM Offshore, Mitsubishi Corp. and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha in which SBM Offshore's shareholding is 55%.
