The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has launched an investigation into a lifting incident involving pipehandling on the Gullfaks B facility in the North Sea on 7 March 2017.
Part of the Eagle Arm crane on this platform came loose and fell to the pipedeck. According to the notification from operator Statoil, the load on the crane weighed 17-tonne and the drop height was 10m.
No personal injuries have been reported as a result of the incident and the PSA's investigation team has departed for Gullfaks B.
Among other goals, the team will seek to clarify the course of events and identify direct and underlying causes in order to contribute to learning and experience transfer.
