Geology Without Limits (GWL), working with Geological Survey of Iran (GSI) and Ministry of Mine, Industry and Trade (MMIT) are planning a 4800 km, 2D seismic, gravity and magnetic data survey in the Iranian sector of the Caspian Sea.

The survey is due to be completed in Q3-Q4 2017 and will provide high-end long-offset seismic data covering the entire Iranian sector of the Caspian Sea.

Data will be acquired with 12km offsets of reflection waves plus ultra-long offsets up to 100km of refraction waves to extend the total depth of the survey and build reliable velocity model for PSDM processing stage.

FloatSeis UltraDeepImagin data acquisition technique will be implemented to reach ultra-long offsets and as a result to increase depth of the survey up to 25-30km. GWL will provide brand new technology FloatSeis 2D plus Low Frequency Dual Source shooting which allowed to create a comprehensive picture of South Caspian geology, tying all of the major faults and cracks with providing the deep imaging of crust deformation and evolution of the region. For processing data will be used GWL TrueVelocitySolution technology, which is based on joint use reflected and refracted waves for creating precise velocity models in areas with complex geological situation.

Within the framework of the project it will carry out cooperation with leading scientific institutions that are actively involved in the problems of this region.

The southern Caspian Basin, in the south of the Caspian Sea, is thought to have fewer reserves than the water body's northern areas. The US Energy Information Administration suggests Iranian waters hold 500 million barrels of proved and probable crude and 1 Tcf proved and probably natural gas.
