A new discovery at BP's Savonette field offshore Trinidad has doubled the field's estimated reserves to 2Tcf, the supermajor announced on 19 November 2012.

The Savonette 4 exploration well encountered an estimated 1Tcf of gas in two reservoir intervals. The well drilled into a previously untested fault block east of the original Savonette discovery in the Columbus basin.

"This is exciting news for both [BP Trinidad & Tobago (bpTT)] and the industry since this represents the largest discovery for bpTT since 2005," said Norman Christie, president of BP Trinidad & Tobago.

Located 80 km southeast of Trinidad, the Savonette 4 well reached a total depth of of 18,678ft in approximately 300 ft of water.

Currently, Savonette 4 is flowing at 225 mmscf/d with 250 mmscf/d in sight. Two additional development wells are in the works, Christie said.

BP holds 100% working interest in Savonette 4.
