Two complete ROV moonpool handling systems are to be delivered by Norwegian specialist Rapp Hydema for Ezra Marine Service’s newbuild vessel Constellation. The new-generation systems are designed for work class ROV operations down to 4000m. All winches are fully electric and each system has full redundancy and active heave compensation for optimum operational safety.

The ROV moonpool handling systems utilize a subsea snubber that is launched beneath the vessel’s keel line, ensuring a softer latching of the TMS and safer launch and recovery in harsh weather. The advanced Pentagon control system has both automatic launch and recovery modes. In automatic mode all of the winches involved in the operation are automatically controlled and synchronized in sequences by the PLC control system, allowing safe operation by a single operator. An air bubble system used in each moonpool starts automatically and is designed to kill generated wave energy in the moonpool while the ROV package is lifted between the keel line and the splash zone.

Rapp Hydema will deliver the systems in several phases in line with Ezra’s newbuild programme for the Constellation, with final delivery scheduled for 1Q 2013.
