Thai prospect disappoints

Published

atwood makoSalamander Energy plc announced that its G4/50-4 exploration well on the Rayong prospect in the Gulf of Thailand has been plugged and abandoned following disappointing results.

The well, which was drilled to a total vertical depth of 1889m by the Atwood Mako jackup, encountered a 119m section of excellent quality P20 Miocene sandstones, the company said. However, the logging and sampling program revealed that these sandstones are water-wet.

In the deeper Permian carbonate target the well encountered a 34m section of Ratburi limestone, which Salamander said was not reservoir quality.

The Atwood Mako will next drill the Surin prospect in the Western Central sub-basin.
