3sun buys RRC

Great Yarmouth, UK, headquartered energy services firm 3sun Group has bought RRC Controls Services as part of its plans to grow in Aberdeenshire.

RRC, based in Gourdon, Aberdeenshire, manufactures subsea control systems for the offshore oil and gas industry, enabling 3sun to supply turnkey services with in-house manufacturing.

RRC currently employs eight people, including managing director Ray Connelly, who is staying with the company, with a turnover of about £3 million.

3sun says it plans to create about 40 new between Aberdeen, Gourdon and Great Yarmouth in the next 12 months as a result of the acquisition.

Part of the growth will be to develop a range of new products, including a deepwater control module.

3sun was set up six years ago and now employs 240 people across bases in Great Yarmouth and Chester, in England, Oban and Aberdeen, in Scotland, Bergen, in Norway, Germany and in Esbjerg, Denmark.

Annual turnover is on target to reach £13.5 million in 2013.
