Centek US plant gains API accreditation

Centek Inc., has been awarded API certification for its US centralizer manufacturing plant in Oklahoma City. Centralizer production started in the plant in July 2012 with 20 employees and this has now grown to a 90 strong workforce producing 35,000 – 40,000 centralizers a month.

The plant is fully self-sufficient in all aspects of centralizer manufacture with its own heat treatment and laser cutting equipment. A second laser cutter has recently been installed enabling a second production line to come into play and the 80,000sq ft factory can accommodate third and fourth manufacturing lines as demand develops. Manufacturing concentrates on the widely used Centek S2 bow-spring centralizer, which made from a single piece of steel, maximizes standoff, flexibility, and robustness.

Centek was first awarded API specification 10D certification for its UK factory in 2005.

“With the second production line coming on stream the teams are working five days a week plus some weekends and because demand continues to grow as forecast, we expect to open a third production line in 2014,” said Cliff Berry, vice president Global Business Development. “We’ve established ourselves in virtually all shale plays in the United States and our centralizers are also widely used in the Gulf of Mexico, so API certification comes as formal endorsement of the quality of our manufacturing methods and products. Attaining API accreditation was a goal set from the outset of the plant opening and this has been achieved earlier than expected to the credit of all our staff at Centek Inc.”

The S2 centralizer is currently being used successfully in US shale plays such as the Marcellus, Eagle Ford, Bakken, Utica, Woodford, Permian, Barnett among others.

The Oklahoma plant manufactures Centek S2 centralizers for the USA, Canadian, and Mexican markets in a range of sizes from 4 ½in. to 13 3/8in. Larger sizes and other centralizer types are manufactured from the UK factory in South West England.
