Safe Astoria heads off Indonesia

Prosafe was awarded a 60-day contract by Swiber Offshore Construction Pte Ltd for the provision of the semisubmersible Safe Astoria for operations in the Natuna Sea gas project’s facilities off Indonesia.

Total value of the contract firm period is approximately US$6.9 million, and operations are slated to commence by the end of this year. Aside from the 60-day term period, Prosafe has provided four additional seven-day options.

From 2004-2005, the 75m-long Safe Astoria underwent a recent refurbishment and upgrade at Keppel FELS Singapore. During that time, it was converted to an accommodation vessel from its original Sedco 600 design. In 2011, further modifications and enhancements were made.

Located in the Greater Sarawak Basin approximately 700mi northeast of the Natuna Islands, the Natuna Sea gas field was developed by Premier Oil after the company acquired acreage that included the Anoa field. The field’s total proven reserves stand at approximately 46 Tcf.

In Natuna Sea Block A, gas from the adjacent Anoa and gaja Baru fields is transported through the 650km West Natuna Transportation System export pipeline to Singapore.
