FoundOcean on Solan grouting

Offshore grouting contractor FoundOcean has secured two contracts on the Solan oil field development west of the Shetland in the North Sea.

The contracts, with Heerema Marine Contractors and Bibby Offshore,& cover structural grouting on the 8000-tonne Solan platform jacket and its 300,000 bbl subsea storage facility, in 135m water depth.

FoundOcean will also pile-grout the offloading system base, which will carry oil from the subsea storage facility to a shuttle tanker. Offshore work is expected to start this summer.

Solan is in Block 205/26a of the UK North Sea. It will be produced via a not permanently manned platform, with produced oil stored over ballast water in a steel subsea tank, being built by Dubai's Drydocks World, before being exported via an oil-offloading system to shuttle tankers. Subsea trees and wells will be remotely controlled from onshroe via the production platform.

Once brought online, Solan is expected to produce 40 MMbo at an initial rate of 24,000 bbl/d.
