Atwood Oceanics, Inc. took delivery of Atwood Achiever from the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME) shipyard in South Korea.

Atwood says the ultra deepwater ship began the mobilization phase of its drilling services contract with Kosmos Energy.

The Atwood Achiever is expected to arrive in Northwest Africa in early December to conduct a three-year exploration drilling program.

In March, Pura Vida Energy reported a rig sharing agreement with Kosmos for the drilling of two wells in the Mazagan permit offshore Morocco. Under the rig share agreement, two slots have been assigned. The first will be used to drill the Toubkal-1 well, which is expected to begin in January 2015. The second slot will be in 2H 2015. The contract specifies a base operating rate of approximately US$595,000/d.

The Atwood Achiever has a maximum water depth of 12,000ft and a drilling depth of 40,000ft. It is the second of four A-Class ultra deepwater drillships Atwood has received from DSME.
