Sevan FPSO potential for Wisting

Published

Norwegian floating production firm Sevan Marine has been awarded a study to evaluate use of its cylindrical hull design for use on the Wisting field, the northernmost oil discovery offshore Norway.

OMV is screening various floating alternatives for developing the play opening Wisting discovery, according to Sevan. Sevan is due to be complete its study by the end of this year.

Wisting was discovered 310km offshore, in the Hoop area in the northern part of the Barents Sea on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The latest appraisal well, Wising Central II - the first horizontal appraisal well in the Barents Sea - was completed on the field in April using the Transocean Spitsbergen in 402m water depth.

The well set a new drilling record; the shallowest horizontal offshore well drilled from a floating drilling facility.

Sevan's cylindrical hull design was used on the Goliat development, currently Norway's northernmost producing oilfield and Norway's only producing oilfield in the Barents Sea. Production at Goliat, which came on stream in March this year, was shut in last week after power was lost, operator Eni said.

A cylindrical FPSO is also being built for Dana Petroleum's Western Isles development in the UK North Sea. A Seven unit is also used on the Huntington field in the UK North Sea, operated by Premier Oil.

OMV (Norge) is the operator and has 25% share in the PL537 license containing Wistnig. Joint venture partners are Petoro (20%), Idemitsu (20%), Tullow (20%) and Statoil (15%).

Today (6 September), Statoil announced adeal with Tullow Norge that will see the Norwegian giant up its stake in Wisting, in addition to three other licenses on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Should the deal be approved, Statoil will gain Tullow's 20% stake in Wisting, to hold a total of 35% interest.
