Chevron restarts at Erskine

Production at Chevron’s Erskine restarted late last month in the central North Sea, following the completion of maintenance work at Shell’s Lomond platform.

Erskine oil and gas production resumed on 29 August, according to partner Serica Energy, after issues concerning the re-commissioning of its Lomond export facilities were resolved by Shell. Work was needed to clear a blockage in the Lomond to Everest condensate export line, in addition to the platform's summer maintenance program.

Since restarting, production has averaged over 3,000 boe/d net to Serica, with a peak rate of over 5000 boe on one day demonstrating the strong capability of the reservoir. Fluctuations in rates have been due to some restrictions on the Forties Pipeline System with production over the remainder of the year expected to be in the range of 2500-3000 boe/d, net to Serica.

The Erskine field lies approximately 150mi (241km) east of Aberdeen, Scotland, in the Central North Sea, in water depths of about 296ft (90m).

Discovered in 1981 in Block 23/26, Erskine was the first high-pressure, high-temperature field to be developed in the UK Continental Shelf. First production was achieved in December 1997.

The field includes a normally unattended installation and is remotely controlled from Shell’s operated Lomond platform. An 18.6mi (30km) pipeline links the two facilities.

Erskine is operated by Chevron North Sea with 50% interest. Partners include Shell (32%) and Serica Energy (18%).
