Archer secures Peregrino extension

Statoil's Brazilian business unit has exercised the first of two options to extend its contract with Archer for the provision of platform drilling management services on the Peregrino field development.

The original contract was for a fixed four-year term, starting in Q3 2009. The contract extension will start 1 September 2014, for three years through 31 August 2017.

Archer currently operates a total of 33 platforms in the North Sea and in Brazil, including the platforms for the Greater Ekofisk Area.

The Peregrino field is 85km offshore Brazil in about 100m water depth. The first phase of the development includes two drilling and wellhead platforms and a ship-shaped floating production, storage and off-take unit (FPSO), pictured.

The platforms are tied back to the FPSO by flowlines and power umbilicals. The project will use produced water injection, horizontal wells, and flow assurance to sustain production over a longer-term. Estimated recoverable resources are currently 300 – 600MMbo.

Production from the field started in April 2011.
